Landscape Lighting Installation in Framingham, MA

Transform your yard after dark with professional pathway, uplighting, hardscape, and outdoor living lighting — designed and installed by a family-owned team trusted across MetroWest for over 35 years.

Light the Landscape You've Invested In

Your Yard Deserves to Be Seen — Day or Night

You've invested in beautiful patios, stonework, gardens, and mature trees. When the sun goes down, all of that disappears. Landscape lighting brings it back.

At D & M Landscape and Construction, we design and install outdoor lighting systems that highlight the architecture of your home, add safety to walkways and stairs, and extend the hours you actually use your outdoor living space. Whether you want soft ambient lighting around a fire pit in Framingham, dramatic uplighting on a specimen tree in Wellesley, or a full low-voltage system that ties an entire property together, our crew handles the design, wiring, and installation from start to finish.

Since 1989, our family-owned team has built patios, walkways, stone walls, and outdoor kitchens across MetroWest. Lighting is the detail that ties all of that hardscape and softscape together — and it's one of the highest-impact improvements you can make to a finished landscape.

What We Install

Outdoor Lighting Solutions for Every Part of Your Property

Most landscape lighting projects combine several techniques to layer light across a yard. Here are the most common types of lighting we design and install for Framingham and MetroWest homeowners.

1

Pathway Lighting

Low-voltage path lights installed along walkways, garden borders, and steps. Adds nighttime safety, eliminates tripping hazards, and guides guests from the driveway to the front door.

2

Uplighting

Fixtures positioned at ground level and angled up to accent specimen trees, stone facades, entry columns, or architectural details of your home. Creates the dramatic curb appeal you see on high-end New England properties.

3

Hardscape Lighting

Thin LED fixtures installed directly into retaining walls, sitting walls, and patio steps. Shines downward to light the surface without glare — ideal around patios and outdoor kitchens.

4

Outdoor Living Lighting

Ambient lighting for pergolas, outdoor kitchens, dining areas, and seating around fire pits. Makes the space actually usable after sunset for entertaining three seasons a year.

5

Moonlighting & Downlighting

Soft fixtures placed high in mature trees or mounted on tall structures, angled downward to mimic natural moonlight. Casts a gentle glow across lawns and patios without harshness.

6

Accent & Spot Lighting

Focused fixtures that highlight a single feature — a water feature, sculpture, container garden, or specimen planting. Used sparingly to draw the eye exactly where you want it.

How It Works

Our Landscape Lighting Process

From the first walkthrough to the final adjustment after dark, here's how we design and install a system that actually looks the way you pictured it.

1

On-Site Consultation

We walk your property, talk through how you use the space at night, and identify the features worth highlighting — trees, architecture, hardscape, entertaining areas.

2

Lighting Design

We build a plan that layers path, accent, and ambient lighting across the property. You'll know exactly where each fixture goes and what effect it creates before we start.

3

Professional Installation

Our crew runs low-voltage wiring, buries lines cleanly, mounts the transformer, and installs every fixture to spec. We work carefully around existing landscape beds and turf.

4

Nighttime Tuning

We come back after dark to aim, shield, and fine-tune every fixture. This is the step most DIY jobs skip — and it's the difference between a good system and a great one.

Why D & M

Lighting That Works With the Rest of Your Landscape

We don't just install lights — we build the landscapes they shine on. That matters more than most homeowners realize.

Family-Owned Since 1989

Over 35 years building landscapes across Framingham, Wellesley, Needham, and surrounding MetroWest towns. The same crew that installed your patio can light it.

Full-Service Landscape Team

Because we handle hardscape, masonry, planting, and lighting under one roof, we see the whole picture. Your lighting plan accounts for the garden beds, stonework, and grading we know inside-out.

MetroWest Local Knowledge

We know the soil, the freeze-thaw cycle, and the architectural style of this region. Our lighting installs are built for New England winters — not copy-pasted from a southern market.

Quality LED Fixtures

We install durable, energy-efficient LED systems designed for outdoor use. Lower electricity bills, longer-lasting bulbs, and better color consistency across the property.

Our Work Is Guaranteed

Every installation we complete is backed by our workmanship guarantee. If something isn't right, we come back and fix it.

Clean, Respectful Crews

Buried wiring, tidy trenching, no ruts left in the lawn. We leave your property looking better than we found it — not tracked up.

What Shapes Your Project

Factors That Affect a Landscape Lighting Installation

Every property is different. These are the main factors we walk through during the consultation so you understand exactly what you're investing in.

Size & Scope of the Property

A front-entry lighting plan looks very different from a full backyard lighting system covering a patio, pool area, trees, and walkways. Scope drives everything else.

Fixture Quality

We use professional-grade brass, copper, and die-cast aluminum fixtures built to last outdoors for years. Big-box store plastic won't survive a MetroWest winter.

Wiring & Transformer Runs

The distance from the power source to each fixture affects trenching, wire gauge, and transformer sizing. Longer runs and larger systems need more robust infrastructure.

Existing Hardscape & Landscape

Installing lighting in an existing mature landscape takes more care than wiring a new build. We work around established beds, trees, and hardscape without damage.

Smart Controls & Timers

Photocell sensors, astronomical timers, zones, and smart-home integration can all be built into a system. These are great add-ons if you want granular control.

Site Conditions

Rock, tree roots, existing irrigation lines, and grade changes all affect how wiring gets run. We assess the site before we quote so there are no surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Landscape Lighting Questions, Answered

How long does a landscape lighting installation take?

Most residential landscape lighting projects are completed in one to three days, depending on the size of the system, the length of the wiring runs, and whether we're working around established hardscape or a new installation. Smaller entry or pathway lighting projects are often finished in a single day. Larger whole-property systems with multiple zones take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the consultation.

What's the difference between low-voltage and line-voltage lighting?

Most modern residential landscape lighting is low-voltage (12V), which is safer to install, easier to adjust, and uses less electricity. A transformer steps down the 120V from your house to 12V at the fixture. Line-voltage (120V) systems are still used for certain applications but require a licensed electrician and more rigid wiring. For the vast majority of landscape lighting in MetroWest homes, low-voltage LED is the right answer.

Will landscape lighting drive up my electric bill?

Modern LED landscape lighting uses a fraction of the electricity that older halogen or incandescent systems used. A full residential system running every night typically adds very little to a monthly utility bill. Combined with timers and photocell sensors, the system only runs when it needs to, which keeps operating costs low.

Can you add lighting to an existing patio, walkway, or retaining wall?

Yes. Retrofitting lighting into an existing hardscape is one of the most common projects we do. Hardscape lights can often be added by removing and re-setting a small section of capstone or paver, running thin low-voltage wire, and concealing the fixture. The result looks like it was part of the original build. If you already have a patio or retaining wall you love, lighting is the upgrade that brings it to life after sunset.

Do you install smart or app-controlled landscape lighting?

Yes. Many of the professional-grade systems we install support smart controls, including zones you can adjust from a phone, scheduling through an app, color-changing LED options, and integration with broader home automation. We'll talk through what level of control you actually want and build the system around it.

How long does a professional landscape lighting system last?

Quality professional fixtures made from brass, copper, or die-cast aluminum are built to last many years outdoors in New England weather. LED bulbs themselves typically last tens of thousands of hours. The full system should give you a decade or more of service with occasional routine maintenance — cleaning lenses, checking connections, and replacing the occasional bulb or fixture.

Do I need a permit for landscape lighting in Framingham or Wellesley?

Standard low-voltage landscape lighting installations generally don't require a building permit in most MetroWest towns because the wiring operates below the threshold that triggers electrical code review. That said, anything tied into line-voltage from the house or involving new circuits may require a permit and a licensed electrician. We handle the details as part of the job and flag any permit requirements up front.

Do you offer maintenance for the lighting systems you install?

Yes. We maintain the systems we install — seasonal checkups, bulb replacement, fixture cleaning, and any adjustments as your landscape grows and changes. As trees mature and planting beds fill in, lighting often needs to be re-aimed or repositioned. We handle that as part of ongoing service.
