A fire pit is where the backyard comes together

We all want more time with family and friends. A fire pit is the feature that makes it happen, the spot everyone drifts to once the sun goes down and stays long after.

D&M builds beautiful fire pits for MetroWest backyards, in the material and style that fit your space. Because our masons are on staff, the stonework is built to last and set into your patio the right way, not dropped on top as an afterthought.

Why D&M

Fire features built by masons, not dropped on top

A fire pit is only as good as the stonework and the base under it. Because our masons are on staff, we build the fire feature into the patio and landscape as one piece.

In-house masonsYour stonework is built by our own crew, guaranteed by our own name.

Built for New England

What a fire pit needs to be built right

A fire pit is more than a ring of stone. Done properly, it is safe, code-compliant, and holds up to New England winters.

Non-combustible base

Every fire pit needs a compacted gravel or paver base that extends well beyond the pit. Direct ground contact leads to settling and a fire risk near roots.

Proper setback

Fire pits have to sit a safe distance from the house, decks, and property lines, with overhead clearance too. We verify local codes before we design.

Gas and permits handled

Hard-piped gas fire pits need a licensed fitter and, in most towns, a permit. We coordinate the gas work and permitting as part of the job.

Freeze-thaw construction

Walls and bases are built to handle New England freeze and thaw, with drainage and compacted foundations that keep the stone from cracking or shifting.

Fire Pit FAQs

People also ask about fire pits

Do you build gas and wood-burning fire pits?

Yes, both. Gas is clean, smoke-free, and instant, ideal for close-seating patios. Wood-burning gives more heat and the classic campfire feel. We build both and help you choose the right one for how you will use it.

What materials do you build fire pits in?

Natural stone, brick, flagstone, pavers, and granite, with stainless steel inserts where they fit the design. The exterior is finished in the stone you love, and the fire-contact interior is always fire-rated.

Do you handle the gas line and permits?

Yes. Hard-piped gas fire pits need a licensed gas fitter and, in most towns, a permit. We coordinate the gas work and the permitting so it is one project, handled by us.

How far does a fire pit need to be from the house?

Fire codes require a safe setback from any structure, deck, or combustible material, and some towns require more than others, with overhead clearance rules too. We verify the local codes for your property before we design.

Can you add a fire pit to an existing patio?

In most cases, yes. If the patio has a proper base and room for the required setbacks, we can add a fire pit without tearing it out, and trench any gas line alongside the existing hardscape. We confirm during the site walkthrough.

How much does a fire pit cost?

Every project is different, so pricing is quoted after an on-site visit. Once we see the space and understand the design, gas or wood, materials, and size, we put together a clear quote. Contact us to set up a visit.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Framingham and build throughout MetroWest and Norfolk County, including Wellesley, Natick, Needham, Dover, Hopkinton, Holliston, Norfolk, and surrounding towns.

Ready to design your fire feature?

Whether you want a gas fire pit built into your patio or a fieldstone wood-burning pit anchoring the backyard, we will walk your property and design it. Family owned since 1989.
